SAINT LAURENT BABYLONE presents Daydreaming of him, a photography exhibition by French-Australian photographer Christopher Barraja, curated by Anthony Vaccarello, on view from June 3 to September 13.
Born in 1996, Christopher Barraja lives and works between Paris and Nice, which he considers a destination designed to escape reality. Photographer and visual artist from the south of France, he studied photography and video at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris, where he developed his graduation project De Chlore et de Rosé, later published by Fisheye Éditions in 2023. The project earned him the Picto Prize and led to his selection as a finalist for the 37th Hyères Festival the same year (2022).
Creating sensual imagery, Barraja’s work explores identity, memory, and desire through the lens of Mediterranean landscapes, culture, and the contemporary queer scene. He explores the tension between softness and strangeness, intimacy, and voyeurism, creating images shaped by light and materiality where the everyday becomes charged with nostalgia and ambiguity. Working through suggestion rather than explicit exposure, his photographs invite viewers to project meaning and emotion, reflecting on time, vulnerability, and the beauty of fleeting moments. His series, like a study of abandoned inhibitions, speak of effortless desire.
