Often referred to as Britain’s answer to Helmut Newton, Bob Carlos Clarke is best known for his photographs whose composition is studied and very constructed. Glamor rubs shoulders with provocation, or frankly embraces it. His visual interests – women and rubber, in particular – sealed his reputation as a photographer of erotic black and white images that he developed in his darkroom, itself symbolic of a sensual space.
From celebrity portraiture to photojournalism and advertising photography, his work spans almost every sphere, often pushing the boundaries of what’s acceptable.
