Hugo Mapelli is a Parisian fashion photographer and French filmmaker whose practice explores photographic processes and their materiality, at the crossroads of historical techniques and contemporary tools.
His work focuses on exploring human relationships, everyday life, and interactions between humans and their environment, with particular attention to details that often escape the eye.
His photographs combine portraiture, architecture, and landscape, often using light effects and minimalist compositions to highlight fleeting and intimate moments.
Rooted in the darkroom, his work favors manual gestures, chance, and experimental processes such as cyanotypes, photograms, calotypes, and luminograms, often producing unique works that lie between photography, object, and abstraction.
He works mainly with film, a technique that allows him to capture the texture and depth of the moment with great precision and emotion.
Through this approach, he reflects on imperfection, traces, and material memory, establishing a dialogue between ancient craftsmanship and contemporary imagination.
His universe revolves around the worlds of fashion and abstraction, with a strong pictorial inspiration to offer more artistic, timeless, and lasting images.
