Saint Laurent Rive Droite welcomes an exhibition of Saul Leiter’s Carte Postale series of photographs curated by Anthony Vaccarello from May 8th to June 14th, 2025.
Saul Leiter was an American photographer and painter known for capturing the streets of New York in color, starting in the late 1940s.
The Carte Postale collection consists of small-format black-and-white photographs that were recently gathered by the Saul Leiter Foundation into a cohesive body of work. Fascinated by little objects and artworks, Leiter made these prints through the late 60s and early 70s in his own darkroom, revealing intimate representations of friends, lovers, and perfect strangers, all caught by his keenly perceptive eye. In 2024, Gallery FIFTY ONE organized the first exhibition of these works and formally gave the series its name: Carte Postale.
Leiter mailed out only a few of his postcard photographs, and some were destined for the black pages of scrapbooks he gifted to those close to him. These prints offer a special glimpse into Leiter’s everyday life, revealing a sensitive photographer in a series of deeply personal moments.
All exhibited artworks will be available for purchase at the Saint Laurent Rive Droite store in Paris. A set of ten reproduced postcards featuring Saul Leiter’s photographic works will also be on sale.
