Saint Laurent Rive Droite Beijing presents Mirror, a selection of works by Chinese artist duo Liu Ke & Huang Huang, on view from May 8 to May 29. This exhibition marks the first official Saint Laurent Rive Droite exhibition presented at Rive Droite Beijing.
Based in Chengdu, Liu Ke & Huang Huang work across photography, installation, and performance. Drawing from observations and shared experiences of everyday life, their collaborative practice explores intimacy, perception, and the dynamics of interpersonal relationships, challenging personal boundaries and creating sustained forms of visual dialogue.
Developed over a two‑year period from January 2017 to December 2018, Mirror originates from the artists’ fifteen years of shared life as both couple in life and artistic partners. Conceived as an attempt to rebuild emotional connection through artistic collaboration, the series consists of 730 mirror-like photographic works (1,460 images), created through daily reciprocal portraiture. Each day, the artists photographed one another, combined the images, and sealed them with the date, forming a continuous visual structure that reflects time, familiarity, and the shifting boundary between self and other. With Mirror, they initiated a daily photographic exchange to observe, break, rebuild and rediscover their relationship. Through repetition and ritual, photography becomes a means of exchange, producing an intimate and sustained visual language.
Their works have been exhibited at institutions and festivals including the Three Shadows Photography Art Centre, Chengdu Contemporary Image Museum, the Asian Art Museum of Photography, and Jimei × Arles International Photo Festival, among others. Pieces by the duo are held in the collections of public institutions and foundations such as the Three Shadows Photography Art Centre and Chengdu Contemporary Image Museum. Liu Ke & Huang Huang’s work Mirror was awarded the 11th Three Shadows Photography Award (2019).
