Antony Cairns
NIGHT CITY

EXHIBITION

AT SAINT LAURENT BABYLONE

Calendar

SAINT LAURENT BABYLONE presents NIGHT CITY, a selection of artworks by Antony Cairns, curated by Anthony Vaccarello, on view from November 5 to December 7.

Featured in prestigious collections such as the Victoria & Albert Museum and La MEP, Antony Cairns offers a unique vision of the city, his true muse. Born in London in 1980, Cairns developed an experimental approach influenced by “1980s futurism“.

Antony Cairns is building an archive with the city as his main subject, in particular after dark. He shoots in major metropolis around the globe, recording the urban environment of places like Tokyo, London, and New York. Cairns likes to work in a practice he calls ‘abstraction through process’, a method that produces a highly stylized body of work and imagery.

His photographs and video clips are created in such a unique way to serve the purpose of adding layers of abstraction to the artworks. Reversing 35mm black and white film in the darkroom or shooting on a PXL2000 lofi 1980s video recorder are examples of this.

Cairns also has a very specific way of producing his artworks. Through constant investigation of photography and its reproductive nature, the artist dwells with lost techniques and redundant vintage papers that suit his purpose. His aesthetic is his own view of the idea of a City by night.

All exhibited artworks at SAINT LAURENT BABYLONE and two exclusive t-shirts will be available for sale.
